Wild Wine Safari

Please Join Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo for our 2008 Wild Wine Safari! This not to be missed annual wine-tasting fundraising event for the Zoo will be on Friday, September 5, 2008, 6:30 to 10:00 p.m. This year features our evening’s 2008 Honorary Chairs -- Congressman Christopher Shays and Mayor Bill Finch.

Wine Emporium of Shelton returns this year to coordinate our featured wines. A sample of wines to be poured include: D’Arenberg Dead Arm, Hess Alomi Cabernet, Sterling Single Vineyard Reserve , BR Cohn Olive Grove Cabernet, Murrietta’s Well Meritaqge, Wente Nth Degree Chardonnay, Vina Izadi Seleccion Crianza, Venta de don Quiote Sauv. Blanc/Macabeo

Zoo Tots

Date: 9/9/2008  -  9/9/2008  ( 10:30 a.m.  to 11:30 a.m. )
This program for children ages 18 months to three years (who are accompanied by an adult) may include stories, games, crafts and a live animal presentation. This session, entitled “Night and Day,” will focus on differences between the animals that move during the night and those that move during the day. The cost is $10 for zoo members and one child, and $15 for non-members and one child. To reserve a space in the program, pre-register by calling the Zoo’s Education Department at 203-394-6563.

Adult Evening Lecture Series

Date: 9/17/2008  -  9/17/2008  ( 7:00 p.m.  to 9:00 p.m. )
Joan L. Morrison, Ph.D., associate professor of biology at Trinity College in Hartford, will discuss "Sharing the City – Hawks in Hartford." Dr. Morrison began a research study in fall 2006 to study red-tailed hawks living in Hartford. She will discuss how a top predator survives in a highly urbanized environment, including foraging behaviors and reproductive success. Lecture takes place in the Zoo's Hanson Exploration Station. Free.

Tiny Adventurers Program

Date: 9/24/2008  -  9/24/2008  ( 10:30 a.m.  to 11:30 a.m. )
This program for children ages 3 to 5 (and one caregiver) takes place the last Wednesday of September, October November, March, April and May. Each day, there will be two sessions: one at 10:30 a.m and one at 1:00 p.m. We will learn about an animal or area of the Zoo by visiting a Zookeeper and having a special talk. We will also create a craft and meet one of our education animals up close. Each program will last 45 minutes to an hour. Participants must call the Education Department at 203-394-6563 for reservations. September’s topic is “Terrific Tigers.” The fee is $10 for members (one adult and one child) and $15 for non-members (one adult and one child).

This program for children ages 3 to 5 (and one caregiver) takes place the last Wednesday of September, October November, March, April and May. Adult Evening Lecture Series

Date: 10/15/2008  -  10/15/2008  ( 7:00 p.m.  to 9:00 p.m. )
Conservation or environmental speaker and topic to be announced. Takes place in the Zoo's Hanson Exploration Station. Free.

Wolf Awareness Day

Date: 10/19/2008  -  10/19/2008  ( 12:00 p.m.  to 3:00 p.m. )
Learn about wolves, including the Zoo's three species: timber wolves, endangered red wolves and endangered maned wolves.

Boo at the Zoo

Date: 10/26/2008  -  10/26/2008  ( 12:00 p.m.  to 3:00 p.m. )
Free admission for children under 12 in costume accompanied by their (paying) families. The event will feature a magician, music, candy, games and crafts.
