Parents

Parents Instill a sense of wonder in your child about animals and the environment with our fabulous entertaining and educational programs. We offer programs as diverse as the planet itself. From our very popular Beardsley Zoo Tots, where parents and their very young children explore the wild world of animals together, to Zoo Patrol our dynamic, weeklong summer program, to the Conservation Discovery Corps for teens, the Zoo has something for all ages and all interests.

Beardsley Zoo Tots
Enjoy animal-themed fun with your youngster! Each month we will have a different animal adventure and learn wonderful things about the creatures which share our Earth. • Includes animal presentation, free play time with “zoo toys”, take-home craft, and story • 45-minute program is geared for children 18 months to five years, and an adult caregiver • Second Tuesday and Wednesday of: March, April, May, September, October and November • 10:30 am or 1:30pm programs are available with pre-registration. • $10 for Zoo members, $15 for non-members • A credit card number is required for your reservation
Stories & Crafts
Cupid’s Corner: What’s at the heart of animal attractions? How do animal families bond? Join us for our free Cupid’s Corner programs to find out! These programs correspond to most school winter break sessions and typically include a close encounter with one of our animal ambassadors, cute crafts to warm the heart and an uplifting story or two. • Geared for children 5 to 11 years of age • 40-50 minutes in length • Limited to 35 participants • Free of charge with Zoo admission
Backyard Beasts: Spring into learning with your children in our free Backyard Beasts programs! Pay a visit to your zoo neighbors and meet “backyard” critters from around the world. These interactive programs correspond to most school spring break sessions. Our Zoo recipe for family learning includes: a cool live animal, a pinch of great story and a dash of fun! • Geared for children 5 to 11 years of age • 40-50 minutes in length • Limited to 35 participants • Free of charge with Zoo admission
Animal Tales: Storytime comes alive in our free Animal Tales programs! Fly, swim and leap your way through storytime with your children. Our Animal Tales sessions are themed weekly and include: a live animal, a fun short story and a cool take-home craft. • Geared for children 5 to 11 years of age • 40-50 minutes in length • Limited to 35 participants • Free of charge with Zoo admission
Summer and School Vacation Programs at Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo
If you love animals, the environment and learning about nature, then you’ll love our summer and school vacation programs. Children may participate in talks and activities with Zoo staff, animal-related games and crafts, behind the scenes tours, hands-on-learning and more! February Frolic: • Held during the February School Vacation week (according to Bridgeport Public School calendar) • For children 6 to 11 years old • Sign up for a single day or the whole week • 9:00 am to 12:30 pm each day • Each day will focus on a different area of the Zoo • Inside activities and games are a part of this session • Zoo members ($30.00 per day) $125.00 /week • Non members ($35.00 per day) $150.00/week
April Adventures: • Held during April School Vacation week (according to Bridgeport Public School calendar) • For children 6 to 11 years old • Sign up for a single day or the whole week • 9:00 am to 12:30 pm each day • Each day will focus on a different area of the Zoo • Zoo members ($30.00 per day) $125.00 /week • Non members ($35.00 per day) $150.00/week Zoo Patrol: Zoo Patrol is our very popular summer program held for six weeks every summer starting after July 4th. Children sign up for a week full of fun and zoo related activities.
Zoo Patrol I: • For children 7 to 11 years old • Activities include keeper talks, behind-the-scenes tours, crafts, games, and more • We also offer a week for children 9 to 11 years old, for the more serious student • Zoo members $130.00 /week • Non members $155.00/week Zoo Patrol II: • For children 12 to 15 years old • Provides a more in-depth view of life at Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo • Each day’s activities vary and may include Animal Care talks, diet preparation, hands-on lab activities and much more • Zoo members $130.00 /week • Non members $155.00/week
Just 4 Teens: Investigate Zoo careers with our many teen programs. We offer seasonal as well as year long programs including Internships, our popular Conservation Discovery Corps and our Explorer Post that will inspire and motivate teens looking for a hands-on experience to see if Zoo life is for them.
